When my mother passed away she left me her diamond ring and her mother's diamond ring. Eventually I took the two rings, along with my own wedding ring, to a jeweler to have made into one ring. Unfortunately...I don't like the new ring! It reminds me of the popular post-war era graffiti, "Kilroy was Here" because it looks like two eyes sitting atop a long, bulbous nose!
The problem came about because I did not have a clear vision of what I wanted and when I consulted with the jeweler and told him about my idea of having the diamonds set side by side in a row, he poo-pooed it saying that it wouldn't look good that way, told me that three diamonds of varying sizes would look best set in a free-form style, and proceeded to show me some options. It turned into a case of allowing the professional who doesn't even know me, to tell me what I like. It was nothing short of dumb on my part. The happy end of the story will come when I take the ring back to the jeweler and have him make a ring that I will really like and will therefore wear! In the meantime I decided I should at least have a photo of the "Kilroy Ring" - which I'm sure many other people would wear with pleasure - so I set up my shot outside in the morning sun where I tried to capture that beautiful light shining on the facets of each diamond. Oh, for a MACRO LENS!
